Hares: IE Shmegg and ZZ Bottom 3rd.
For the 6th year in a row, DCH4 will gather to support the children of Greenbelt Nursery School (where Mrs. Shmegg works). The Tortoise and Hare 5k Costume Race starts at 8AM. There will be TWO beer checks on the course. We encourage you to wear a kilt. Something new this year is the costume part. For once the hashers won’t be the only ones dressed funny. Sign up at www.greenbeltnurseryschool.org or send email to Shmegg to register. Walk-in registration is more expensive so preregister. Breakfast at Shmegg’s following the event.
From the Beltway, take Exit 23 Kenilworth Ave. Northbound towards Greenbelt. Make a right at the light onto Crescent Rd. Go about a mile to the stop sign and turn left on Gardenway and look for 2-S on the left.
If you’re doing the race, you can park at Shmegg’s and walk less than 10 minutes to the start. If you’re driving to the race, follow directions above to the stop sign and continue straight on Crescent for two more stop signs. Turn right at the library and park.
From points North via the B-W Parkway, take the exit for MD-193 Greenbelt/NASA Goddard. At the light make a right onto Southway. To get to Shmegg’s turn right at the stop sign on Ridge Rd. At the first stop sign, turn left on Gardenway and look for 2-S on the left. It’s less than a 10 minute walk from Shmegg’s to the r*ce start. If you’re driving to the r*ce start, stay on Southway until the second stop sign and turn left on Crescent then right at the stop sign by the library.
By Metro, take the Green Line to Greenbelt. Catch a G12 bus towards New Carrollton at 7:30 for the r*ce or 11:30 for trail. Get out at Roosevelt Center and look for Gardenway. Or call the hare and we’ll send someone to pick you up.
